Clogger in Oz

Twenty-six hours on the plane to arrive in Melbourne at 2am. From the freezing to the boiling. At least we brought a flash flood to relieve the drought.

Ride to Latrobe University

My brother-in-law, Reg & a group of friends do a regular Thursday morning ride. The first was along the Anniversary & Merry Creek trails - both tarmaced, nearly all off road along parks, creeks etc - to Latrobe University. Had coffee at the student union.

Round trip of about 20 miles before lunch.

Pascoe Vale

Last Thursday, rode out to my old house at Pascoe Vale. Again mainly on dedicated cycle/walkways through the parks & along the Yarra River to the city centre, coffee at Docklands the the Moonee Ponds Creek cycleway.

Trained back to the city centre: 4 bikes allowed and happily tolerated by other passengers in the last carriage. Bit different to Virgin Rail?

Finished with a good run back along the Yarra cycleway & home for a shower and lunch.

Cycling computer says 30 miles.

Really good cycling facilities here but, unfortunately, nothing's ever perfect.

The cycleways are 1.5 to 3 metres wide and usually happily shared by cyclists, walkers, runners & dogs. There are a lot of commuters, lads in lycra, drops and bulging eyes who come up like a steam train, shout "passing" and rocket by whatever. If it gets worse, shared facilities might be at risk.

Eltham

Spent some time at my sister-in-laws in Eltham. Their daughter had been going out with a cyclist who got her a nice hardtail, so the undeserving fall on their feet again.

The hills are HORRENDOUS, but there's a trail down to the Diamond Creek & Yarra cycleways. So I've taken some gum tree and river views.
