JimBob in Holland

Saturday 29/12/2007 to 'New Year Ride'

Leader - and only participant! : JimBob
Eikendaal 39, Wassenaar, Holland - 1.00pm

A circular ride to the beach at Wassenaar, and then to on to Dan Haag (The Hague). Total ride distance of about 25 miles.

Why can't the UK treat cyclists like that?

I always knew Holland was flat, but while driving from Calais up through France, then Belgium, and into Holland - we actually never went up any hills at all!

The Dutch have it so thought out - who (but the Dutch?) would have thought of Cyclist's dual carriage ways, your own traffic lights, and how's about this shot for the ultimate in "Park and Ride"?

I hadn't realised that in Holland, the Cyclist has right of way over the car at junctions - which if anyone has seen my cycling, is just as well!

The route was a good mixture of cycle paths along main road (N44) and town roads. I even managed to continue past the station into the main pedestrian centre of The Hague to fit in some shopping - sad, but true.

I did miss you all - I could quiet easily have chained the bike up at one of the numerous cycle stands and headed for a café for a drink and a chat - maybe another time ?

If anyone ever visits The Hague, I have a copy of the ride book I used, and would be happy to email it to you - feel free to ask. The guide details the sights, buildings, and other landmarks along the route, with backgrounds to them all - so would make a good day long trip.

Or, how about the Pushbikes "Overseas Adventure 2009" ?? - a cycling holiday / City Break ?? - I'll leave that thought in your mind.

How about the Flanders Ecotour as Pushbikes Overseas Adventure 2009?

Couldn't / can't resist, David :)
