A Junction in Erlangen

A junction in Erlangen
This is the junction at the corner of the Saturn store shown in other photos in this series. Saturn is on the far right-hand corner of the junction. The road to the left has an ASL approached by a central "meat grinder" lane; judging by their positioning it's possible the group of four cyclists on the left opted to avoid it by cycling on to the pavement. This is an example of something that could and should be improved, but the council failed to build on the success of the original scheme. The Dutch have, and ASLs and "meat grinder" lanes are now regarded as obsolete. This junction could be much improved by being converted to a Dutch-style simultaneous green junction. However, unlike British attempts as cycling infrastructure, the infrastructure in Erlangen has at least been maintained, and to a high standard.
