Laat Di Tiet

laat di Tiet
This sign is in Niederdeutsch, a language common to North Germany and the Netherlands, where it is known as Nederduits. The sign says "Take your time!", and is aimed at motorists. Usually they ask drivers to consider children, and this sign has one above it doing just that (in German). You see these signs just about everywhere a road enters a village or hamlet, no matter how small the road. Indeed this sign is on a single track road that ends for motor vehicles not far beyond the sign. Needless to say there is little motor traffic here, but residents clearly regard motor vehicles as guests that are not entirely welcome.
