20's Plenty For Us
was formed in order to campaign for the implementation of 20 mph as the default speed limit on residential roads in the UK.
In Britain, more than half of road deaths and serious injuries occur on roads with 30 mph limits (Transport Statistics for Great Britain). Britain has the highest percentage of pedestrian road fatalities in Europe 20%. (EU European Road Safety Observatory)
Lowering urban and residential speed limits to 20 mph has been found to increase a 15 minutes car journey by just 60 seconds.
Local Cycling Organsations
20 in Birmingham
20 in Birmingham is trying to get more people cycling by enabling safe cycling here in Birmingham. We need slow speeds (10-20mph) on residential roads, cycle paths by the side of busy roads, and cycle training. This would allow any inexperienced cyclist to cycle anywhere in the city without cycling on a busy road with fast traffic.. The strategy is based on the Dutch and Danish cycling strategy.
Birmingham and Midland CTC Branch
The way the CTC is organised is that the Birmingham area is covered by the Birmingham and Midland District Association, which is divided into seven sections. These are Camping, Northern Section (around Sutton Coldfield, clubroom at Shenstone), Fifty Plus, (for those over the age of 50), Southern Wheelers, and Southern, (southern Birmingham and Solihull), Western (around Stourbridge) and West Bromwich.
Birmingham University Bicycle User Group
We are a group of University of Birmingham cyclists who have come together to try to improve cycle facilities both within and outside the University.
