Consultation: Cycle Parking in the city centre

Correct use of a D-lock

As part of the Birmingham Cycle Revolution (BCR), extra cycle parking in the city centre (inside the middleway) is being installed to help people lock up their cycles when they reach their destinations. Following an informal consultation process earlier this year, the BCR team are consulting on final plans for this wave of cycle parking. The consultation can be found on the Birmingham BeHeard website, and closes on the 1st December 2017.

A34 City Centre to Heathfield Road cycle track approved

The plans for the A34 cycle route was approved by Birmingham City Council on the 1st November. The plans for the route have been delayed due to challenges to the A38 cycle route (over the turning into Wellington Road), and extra work was done on an air pollution assessment. But the route has been less controversial due to the space along the A34 meaning that no new motor traffic restrictions have been needed.

Report from BCR stakeholders meeting April 2017

Every month, Push Bikes campaigners attend the Birmingham Cycle Revolution (BCR) stakeholders meetings to discuss developments with the various BCR programmes. This is an update on some of the main points that I have taken away from the meeting in April. I intend to do regular updates on these meetings, so watch this space in the coming months.

As part of the Birmingham Cycle Revolution (BCR), a new segregated cycle route from Birmingham city centre to the Heathfield Road junction is being consulted on now. (The BCR team will be drawing up plans for the next section to reach Perry Barr OneStop soon.) This consultation is the second of a pair of consultations - the other consultation is the A38 Bristol Road consultation.

Consultation: Variable 20mph zones outside schools

School zone 20mph variable limit sign

Birmingham City Council is consulting on a list of variable 20mph zones outside schools in Birmingham. This is part of the work paid for by the Birmingham Cycle Revolution (BCR) with the national funds awarded by the government through the Cycle City Ambition Grants. There are individual consultations for each of the variable 20mph zones, but contact email address for each is the same.

Hatchford Brook Cycleway consultation

There is a consultation for a new cycle route in Sheldon Country Park, alongside the Hatchford Brook, next to the golf course. The route will have 2.5m tar-and-chip paths installed, and links across Coventry Road to Elmdon Park in Solihull. In Push Bikes' response to this consultation we have noted that a 3m minimum for shared use paths is preferable, and that any chicanes and vehicular barriers installed must be able to accommodate all cycles, such as recumbents and cycles with trailers.
