National Cycle Network Route 5 used to cross from Bridge Street (on the opposite side of the road) to Centenery Square, which is immediately behind the camera viewpoint. When the tram line was built this was simply blocked off, so now people using the cycle route have to skirt around the end of the island, risking a dismount because the tracks are not being crossed at 90 degrees. Also, those cycling towards Broad Street have to deal with cars exiting Bridge Street (from which they must go left), because no thought was given to keeping the cycle route open. It would be easy to fix this, though it would have cost nothing if done at the time of construction. However, all Birmingham City Council officers do is come up with some of the most ludicrous excuses this campaigner has ever heard.
