A38 Pop-Up Cycle Lane

A38 pop-up cycle lane
Replacing the left-hand lane of the A38 south of Selly Oak (on both carriageways) and reducing the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph reduces the level of hostility to a point where people will be much more willing to cycle this stretch of road. The old and inadequate non-mandatory cycle lanes have been left in place, providing a visual guide, but the width of the lane to the right of it is still such that buses run wall-to-wall. Junctions remain threatening for cyclists. It's an improvement, but the overall width of the road means there is scope for doing much, much better.
