Birmingham City Council built this filter lane for Gibbins Road, so motor traffic on the A38 takes advantage of it to use yet another residential road as a rat run, this time to avoid the Selly Oak Triangle junction. The council is proposing to build speed cushions and pinch points on Gibbins Road to reduce the inevitable heavy traffic and speeding and to "encourage cycling". Any cyclist will tell you this will just make cycling conditions even worse.
